Hub Units revolutionised by a new cold extrusion technique.
Hub Unit bearings surround the axis of each wheel and handle many kinds of forces: forward propulsion, turning and stopping. They must be strong enough to support the whole weight of the car while transmitting power to the wheels. But cars handle better with lighter bearings, so we were determined to find a way to manufacture lighter hub units.
After much research and experimentation, we finally developed a new cold casting method to replace the conventional method of hot casting iron at 1,200° C. We can now cast a single piece of iron instantaneously. The strength of the iron itself has also increased, resulting in highly reliable, lighter and more compact bearings. The process even has less environmental impact, since there’s no need to generate high temperatures.
