More people than ever are driving cars with automatic transmissions. As AT has evolved, the number of speeds available has increased from the original 3 to as many as 8.
This development has virtually eliminated jerky gear changes and consistently made both acceleration and deceleration extremely smooth. Energy loss has been greatly reduced, resulting in major fuel savings. But as we continue to challenge ourselves, our quest has led us even further.
NSK is the only manufacturer that makes every part of an automatic transmission, from bearing and friction plates to one-way clutches, and we have set ourselves a tough goal – to reduce energy loss by half. To achieve this, we made each component thinner, lighter and more efficient. Thought it may only be a small step, every little bit propels us further.
