NSK Reports Corporate Social Responsibility Achievements

NSK Leads by Example in Corporate Social Responsibility/Environmental Management

NSK Corporation, a member of the NSK Ltd. Group of Companies, is preparing its annual Corporate Social Responsibility Report, due for release in September, and celebrating the past year’s environmental successes. NSK, named a Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporation last year by the World Economic Forum, is proud to pursue the highest level of sustainability and social responsibility.

NSK is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of bearings and related linear-motion and automotive products. Based in Tokyo, Japan, the organization operates over 150 locations around the world.

The company is an industry leader in corporate social responsibility (CSR). As of March 2008, all 51 NSK facilities were certified ISO 14001. Additionally, all NSK sites follow a comprehensive CSR strategy that emphasizes recycling, green procurement and company-wide environmental education.

In their manufacturing facilities, NSK has advanced the bearing production process considerably, refining its manufacturing operations and taking significant steps to, among other things, reduce scrap waste, lower CO2 emissions, increase energy efficiency and cut down on the use of harmful chemicals. NSK also maintains a ‘zero emission policy’ and has set out comprehensive goals for 2010 that encompass a host of environmental concerns, including the promotion of green product procurement, a waste-recycling rate of 90% or greater, and an annual reduction in CO2 emissions per production unit by one percent.

NSK’s efforts around CSR and Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) have earned the company recognition by a number of international SRI indices including the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, the FTSE4Good Global Benchmark Index, the Ethibel Sustainability Index and the Morningstar Japan SRI Index.
